Obsequio Group expands service offering with acquisition of smoke control specialist

Obsequio Group has strengthened its fire safety offering with the acquisition this week of a smoke control specialist.

The purchase also enables the Group to build critical mass in the populous South East.

Kent-based PLP Fire Protection is the sixth company to be acquired by Obsequio in the past year, with each member of the family bringing with it either a new service or a geographical expansion as part of the Group’s buy and build strategy.

This latest acquisition adds new strategic capability, enabling the group to offer a service in-house which was previously provided by sub-contractors.

PLP’s expertise in the design, installation, maintenance of smoke control systems and dry risers enables Obsequio to provide these services entirely in-house without reliance on external specialists.

Additionally, the purchase means the Group can offer its one-stop-shop portfolio of related compliance services to PLP’s high profile customer base across the home counties.

The company holds multiple UKAS-accredited third-party certifications, including Kiwa IFC SDI 19 for smoke control systems, BAFE SP203-1 for fire detection and alarm systems, and BM Trada Q-Mark for fire door installation and maintenance.

In addition, the company is a member of the Fire Industry Association (FIA), the Smoke Control Association (SCA), and the National Association of Fire Door Inspectors (NAFDI). It is also SafeContractor approved and an authorised Notifier by Honeywell distributor.

Shareholders Paul Bennett, and Rob Beeching will stay with PLP to help grow the business, which currently has a 22-strong workforce.

As well as smoke control and dry risers, the last 12 months have seen asbestos compliance, energy metering, air quality compliance and complex water commissioning added to Obsequio’s portfolio.

Obsequio group M&A director Philip Sarthou said: “We’re very excited to have acquired PLP because it provides a specialist service for which we often had to rely on subcontractors. Being able to offer this in-house means our offering will be more streamlined and cost-effective for our clients.”

Obsequio Group chairman Simon Cashmore added: “This latest acquisition adds new strategic capability in terms of AOV maintenance, installations and remedials and dry risers. It enables us to support PLP’s high profile client lists and adds to our national reach by building critical mass in the South East.”

Paul Bennett and Rob Beeching, co-founders of PLP Fire Protection said: “Joining the Obsequio Group allows us to expand our capabilities and offer a broader range of compliance services to our clients. Our specialist smoke control expertise, combined with the group’s wider fire safety offering, creates a perfect partnership for our existing customers  and for the new relationships we plan to build in the years ahead.”
